Eat, Pray, Naches - Jewish Community Stories exhibition travels

The Eat, Pray, Naches* exhibition celebrates Waverley’s Jewish community by preserving and sharing the stories of its post-war immigrants and their families. The exhibition showcases food, rituals and joys of Jewish people from Israel, the Soviet Union, Europe, South Africa, China, and the Middle East. It discovers the community’s tales of hardship, courage and optimism and the general public and school students have derived great value from its educational content.

The exhibition was presented at the Waverley Library 1 September to the 8 October 2015.

The exhibition is now officially travelling and it is finding homes in venues such as libraries, museums, galleries, community centres and schools.

Visitor feedback

During the exhibition at Waverley Library, participation was encouraged in a myriad of ways such as connecting the visitors smart phone or tablet to the free wifi or using one of the available library iPads to visit the website. We also encouraged people to be social and use the #eatpraynaches hashtag and @waverleycouncil.

Feedback forms provided the following visitor insights:
  • Approx. 10,000 people visited the exhibition at the Waverley Library over the 5 week period
  • Majority of visitors stayed over 30 minutes with nearly 20% spending over 1 hour engaging with the content
  • Majority of visitors rated the exhibition as 4 or 5 star ‘quality’ and ‘informative’
  • 200 naches messages were written on the ‘Our Naches Wall’
